WWF FIGURE INSIDER
By John Barnett

(For the week of August 20, 1999)

NEWS:First, Jakks removed the guns from STOMP 4: Camo Carnage. Now, they've sent Camo Carnage: Special Issue out to stores. The Special Issue versions feature new packages and repainted figures with different accessories. Austin now features a bow & arrow, infra-red goggles, and a barbed-wire bat. HHH comes packed with a wrench, cooler, briefcase, and boom box. Chyna now sports a surveillance battle cam, bucket, and comlink pack. X-Pac now has a shovel, club, and arm gauntlet. Road Dogg now has armor, a fire extinguisher, and sledge hammer. Billy Gunn's accesories were changed to a mallot, baton, and survival pack. These new Special Issue figures seem to be in pretty plentiful supply, as the first-issue Camo Carnage with guns were. Expect the figures from the transition period without guns to end up being the rarest variations.  Ringside Collectibles is not carrying the Camo Carnage set so if you are a fan of the STOMP style of figures, I suggest that you stop by your local retailer.

Jakks has come out with two new 4-packs. The first being a Wal-Mart exclusive called Last Man Standing with Austin, the Rock, Vince McMahon, and Shane McMahon. Nothing new here really. Austin's the same as in Signature Series 3. The Rock is the same as his Series 8 figure, only with Series 2 Owen Hart arms for some bizzare reason. Vince is the same as his Grudge Match figure. Shane is the same as in Fully Loaded 2. If you already own these figures, there's no need to buy this 4-pack.  The other new 4-pack is Expect No Mercy; which features Austin, the Rock, Vince McMahon, and the Undertaker. Austin's the same as in Deadly Games, only with Sid/Severn/Razor Ramon legs. The Rock has the head and upper body from his Fully Loaded 2 figure with what appear to be Series 7 Austin legs. Vinny Mac's the same as his Series 9 figure. Rounding out the 4-pack is the Series 7 'Taker. Pretty lame, but a good chance to pick up weird variations.

Sales have been very strong for the Edge & Christian autographed 2-Pack.  If orders continue to come in for the 2-Pack at such a fast pace, Ringside Collectibles will be sold out of them long before they are in stock.  If you are thinking of ordering one, I would suggest getting your order in ASAP as these are 2 of the hottest rising superstars in the WWF.

Maximum Sweat 3 has shipped to stores this week. Included in the third go-round for the Maximum Sweat line are Gangrel, The Rock, the Big Show, Big Boss Man, Mankind, and, of course, Stone Cold Steve Austin. It's a solid lineup with some cool accessories such as The Rock's WWF title belt, Austin's baseball bat, and Mankind's Mr. Socko.

Also new in stores is the Al Snow vs. Hardcore Holly Grudge Match 2-pack. This latest Grudge Match 2-pack contains the Road Rage incarnations of the two, only without the cool accessories.

This is your last chance to check out the bargains at the Summerslam Hot Sale because Summerslam is this Sunday night on Pay Per View!!

The results to this week's poll are overwhelming. The landslide victor is your role model and mine, Chris Jericho. Nearly half of you would throw down your hard-earned cash for his autograph on a figure. Coming in a distant second was the Godfather, who received less than half as many votes as Jericho. Now that's what I call getting over...FAST.

Final Results of last week's Poll:  Which WWF Superstar would you be most likely to purchase an autographed figure of?

D'Lo Brown            75 Votes
Val Venis                45 Votes
The Big Show       156 Votes
The Godfather      178 Votes
Chris Jericho        419 Votes

CLASSIC JAKKS FIGURE OF THE WEEK:

Hart vs. Hart Family Feud 2-Pack

This week's choice is the popular Hart vs. Hart Family Feud 2-pack. It was a limited edition of a mere 12,000 2-packs and was an exclusive to KB toy stores. This 2-pack also features paint decos for Bret and Owen Hart that were never used again. The Hitman's decked out in all-pink and his late brother is sporting his "Slammy Award Winner" singlet and a cast painted on his left hand.  This rare 2-Pack now commands $25-$50 on the aftermarket.

BRING IT TO ME JAKKS!: Is there a certain figure that you would like to see produced or an accessory you would like to see made?  Jakks has told us that they would love to hear your ideas and suggestions for future products!  If you always wanted that Howard Finkel figure to complete your collection or if you ever wanted a life-size Headbanger skirt that you can actually wear, all that you have to do is e-mail Jakks with your suggestion.  They just might use it!
All product suggestions sent to: [email protected] will be forwarded directly to Jakks Pacific.

WWF FIGURE TRIVIA QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

This week's prize is a signed Sable promotional WWF 8x10 photo.  Remember, Rena Mero can legally no longer sign her name as "Sable" making this a very RARE item.
The question is: What was different about the Sable figure that was offered earlier this year a mail-away exclusive in White's Guide to Collecting Figures?

If you think you know the answer, just send an e-mail to: [email protected] with the subject "INSIDER CONTEST" and your answer by 11:59pm eastern time on August 26. One winner will be chosen from all correct entries received.  The winner of this contest will be announced on the Figure Insider page on August 26th.  If the winner does not e-mail us with a name and mailing address to send their prize to within 7 days of the drawing, they forfeit the prize.

The answers to last week's question are Bret "The Hitman" Hart and "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith. I received a vast array of answers, but the brothers-in-law are the only wrestlers to have figures made by LJN, Hasbro, JusToys, and Jakks. This week's winner is [email protected]. Please e-mail me your name and address so we can send you your prize.

For those who e-mail me wanting to know what next week's prize will be, you can think about this while you're watching Summerslam.  If Mankind wins the title, the prize will be the super rare Razor/Diesel 2-Pack, if Steve Austin retains his belt, the prize will be a $50 Ringside Collectibles Gift certificate, and if Triple H manages to win the title, the prize will be an Owen Hart vs. Bret Hart Family Feud 2-Pack.  However, if for some reason no WWF World Champion is crowned at Summerslam, next week's prize will be a Razor/Diesel 2-Pack, an Owen/Bret 2-Pack, and a $100 Gift Certificate!
