WWF FIGURE INSIDER
By John Barnett

(For the week of August 27, 1999)

NEWS:Grapple Gear is always one of Jakks's top sellers, and, of course, there's more on the way.  With Grapple Gear Series 3, Jakks has upgraded the assortment size from three playsets to four amazing playsets.  First up is BACKSTAGE BRAWL!, which includes the cool-looking camera man in the picture.  I suppose the backwards hat and sunglasses are a part of the WWF Attitude. Also included are a camera & battery pack, light stand, ring bell & hammer, and a trunk to store the equipment in. This is definitely going to be a hot-seller. Next up is STREET FIGHT RULZ!, which contains a "Dead End" sign, sewer cover, and a nasty-looking mattress.  BOILER ROOM BRAWL! consists of a ladder, pipe, and a rolling shopping cart. All three should make for some interesting hardcore matches. The fourth and final set in Grapple Gear 4, RAW IS WAR LIVE!, contains some interesting accessories indeed. Included are a folding chair, barell with lid, and even a mechanics' creeper. These Grapple Gear sets just keep getting more and more interesting. On a side note, how amazing do these Titan Tron-Live figures look? These sculpts are amazing!  I urge you to check out the photographs of all the new Grapple Gear 3 Accessory sets by checking out the Coming Soon page.

The much-anticipated Road Rage assortment has hit stores. The assortment contains, among other things, an amazing Godfather figure and a score of new accessories. New accessories include a wheelbarrow (included with the Godfather), guard rail (with Test), and the new break-away table (included with Hardcore Holly). Check the first installment of this column (July 26th) for pics of Road Rage. You won't be able to buy these figures here at Ringside Collectibles, but you may want to give your local retailer a try.

If you haven't pre-ordered your Edge & Christian autographed 2-Pack yet, you'd better hurry. We're only getting 250 and they're almost sold out.

Surprisingly, the top response in last week's poll was that most of you have never bought any figures online and don't plan on doing so. Coming in a strong second, a lot of readers say they purchase figures online because of selection. Then, of course, came convenience. I'm surprised by the #1 response, but the rest of the results are not surprising.

CLASSIC JAKKS FIGURE OF THE WEEK:

The Executioner Figure
From The Buried Alive 4-Pack

The Executioner is one of the rarest figures ever made by Jakks. He was released only once as a Target exclusive in their Buried Alive 4-pack. This distinction puts him in select company alongside the likes of the Blue Blazer and Skull. When the 4-pack hit Target stores in November of 1997, most people bought them just for the Executioner. The same goes two years later, as the 4-pack commonly sells for $50 to $60 mint in box just for this one figure. If you can find someone selling him loose, expect to pay around $15 to $20. That's pretty good for a guy and his ax.

BRING IT TO ME JAKKS!: Is there a certain figure that you would like to see produced or an accessory you would like to see made?  Jakks has told us that they would love to hear your ideas and suggestions for future products!  If you always wanted that Howard Finkel figure to complete your collection or if you ever wanted a life-size Headbanger skirt that you can actually wear, all that you have to do is e-mail Jakks with your suggestion.  They just might use it!
All product suggestions sent to: [email protected] will be forwarded directly to Jakks Pacific.

WWF FIGURE TRIVIA QUESTION OF THE WEEK: This week's prize is the crown jewel of the Jakks collection, the Razor Ramon vs. Diesel 2-pack. That's right; since Mic Foley won the WWF Championship at Summerslam, we are giving one away this week only.  The question is: What store was the Razor Ramon & Diesel 2-pack first exclusive to? Here's a hint: It only has one location and it's not Ringside Collectibles.

If you think you know the answer, just send an e-mail to: [email protected] with the subject "INSIDER CONTEST" and your answer by 11:59pm eastern time on September 2, 1999. One winner will be chosen from all correct entries received.  The winner of this contest will be announced on the Figure Insider page on September 2.  If the winner does not e-mail us with a name and mailing address to send their prize to within 7 days of the drawing, they forfeit the prize.

What was different about the Sable figure that was a mail-away exclusive in White's Guide to Collecting Figures? The difference was that it was repainted in a silver outfit. Last week's winner is [email protected]. Please e-mail me your name and address so we can send you your prize.
